The Queensland Premier's Drama Award and the Mutha of Divas

Well it’s been some time since I last blogged, mainly because it’s been difficult finding the time to do so. I’ve been working on two main projects - the second round of workshops for the three finalists of the Queensland Premiers Drama Award, and a show I came on board to work on outside of The Queensland Theatre Company, Carita Farrer is the Mutha of Divas. I’m also heading off to Canberra for two weeks (how much am I going to freeze?) to workshop a couple of plays at the Playwriting Australia Workshop series.

Travelling South

Over the last couple of week’s I’ve been on  a nice trip down south, catching  up in Geelong with a show I directed called Heroes - which is currently on tour - then saw a couple of plays in Melbourne and a couple in Sydney before heading off to Albury-Wodonga for a creative development with HotHouse Theatre.

Workshopping for the Queensland Premier's Drama Award

Last week here at Queensland Theatre Company we finished off the first round of workshops for the 2008-09 Queensland Premier’s Drama Award. For anyone reading this who doesn’t have a clue what this award is, it’s basically a play writing award that the Queensland Theatre Company runs where winning first prize means you get your play produced and included in our mainstage season the following year. Heaps of entries get whittled down to three finalists which each undergo workshops and rewrites until we present them all as rehearsed readings for the public and judging panel, and one gets chosen as the winner. That play then gets a few more workshops until it goes into rehearsal, where of course, more rewriting gets done. It’s pretty cool and can be full on –  for the writers at least.
