The Year of Magical Thinking
By Joan Didion
The Year of Magical Thinking (2009)
Robyn Nevin as Joan Didion
Overview
Cate Blanchett directs Robyn Nevin in this critically acclaimed one-woman show, based on Joan Didion’s best-selling memoir. Secure in her work, happily married and with a daughter she loved, in 2003 Didion’s entire world suddenly went from the ordinary to the unimaginable. In one terrible year she was forced to deal with her daughters life-threatening disease and the sudden death of her husband. How Didion coped with her incredible loss lies at the heart of this candid, poignant and compassionate play.
Joan Didion is one of the great American essayists and novelists of the past 50 years, whose writing is marked by a unique combination of the personal and the universal. The Year of Magical Thinking is a love letter to a child and a tribute to an extraordinary marriage.
