Anatomy Titus Fall of Rome

Anatomy Titus Fall of Rome A Shakespeare Commentary By Heiner Muller Translated by Julian Hammond

John Bell is Titus Andronicus, Imperial Rome’s greatest military commander. After ten years of hard campaigning Andronicus returns to Rome in triumph, the empire’s enemies defeated and the Goth queen Tamora and her son in chains. But life on the battlefield has left Andronicus unprepared for the ruthlessness of a decadent and corrupt Roman court, and at the height of his glory Andronicus fails to realise he has sown the seeds of Rome’s ultimate destruction. William Shakespeare’s early tragedy is a bloody tale of revenge and counter-revenge, which playwright Heiner Müller takes as the starting point for his examination of the nature of violence in our modern world.
