New Writing

Queensland Theatre Company will be a hub for playwriting in 2008 as we continue our commitment to supporting Australian writing for the theatre. The 2008 New Writing program offers playwrights exciting opportunities for script development through intense dramaturgical sessions, rehearsals with professional directors and actors, and exclusive and intimate play readings. Writers will also be given the opportunity to work with leading industry professionals during the year, both local and from interstate. Subscribing to Writing E-News is the best way to get exclusive invitations to scheduled events, as well as information about new initiatives and activities with our writing program partners. If you are interested in new writing for the theatre you will want to be part of the Queensland Theatre Company Writing Program in 2008.

Affiliate Writers

Queensland Theatre Company continues to work with a number of writers, developing new works for performance. In 2008 Sven Swenson will be an Affiliate Writer with the Company.

The Works

In 2008, The Works will again focus on support for writing projects at the stage of development where they most need it – facilitating creative development and exposing new work at an early stage to a select audience. Over the course of the year several writers from Queensland and the rest of Australia will work with the Company developing new plays, culminating in public readings. The Works will be presented in July/August with readings of the finalists of the Queensland Premier’s Drama Award and again in November.
